Come In
Welcome to Elastic Orbits.
This is a space for artists, independent designers and makers who are also mothers — and for everyone who exists somewhere in, around, or simply curious about that world.
Every other month, Elastic Orbits brings together two guests whose creative practices complement or invert each other, in conversation about what it actually means to build and sustain a creative practice alongside motherhood.
I'm Sarmishta Pantham — a designer and creative director based in Berlin, mother of two, and the founder of this series. I started Elastic Orbits because I couldn't find the conversation I was looking for. One that was honest about the structural tensions, the emotional reckoning, and the continuous reinvention that happens when you're trying to raise a child and a creative practice at the same time, while trying not to lose yourself completely to either.
The conversations published here as edited transcripts, along with reflections and behind the scenes thinking between events. The guests are women artists, designers, and makers from around the world — women who have rewritten what it means to have a creative practice alongside motherhood. The conversations are open to everyone. Mothers of all kinds, non-mothers, people who are curious, people who want to be part of the village. If the intersection of creative practice and parenthood speaks to you in any way, you're in the right place.
